~HAND-WOVEN & EMBROIDERED SHAWL from MICHOACAN~~REBOZO de MICHOACAN, TEJIDO y BORDADO A MANO~

A profusion of colorful animal & plant life adorns this gorgeous example of art enriching daily life for the Pur' hepecha people of Michoacan. This cozy shawl is hand-woven of non-dyed wool over cotton, then embroidered with dyed wool yarn.

Textiles are the very characterization of a people. 'Love Manifest' in the creation of useful items of comfort for family & friends. Exemplified in shirts, blouses skirts and trousers...shawls, ponchos, belts, and scarves...table cloths, runners and rugs. It brings to mind the timeless snippet...'weaving the tapestry of life'.

The many peoples of Mexico use varied materials, tools and patterns adapted over centuries, though, not only for use in their own microcosms. A vigorous trans-continental trade since ancient days, has one culture influencing the next. Art is always in evolution.
